Common questions

What is the average typing speed?

The average person types about 200 characters per minute, which is 40 words per minute. Touch typists usually reach 300–400 CPM and professionals exceed 500. The Typewizz test measures your speed in one minute.

What do CPM and WPM mean?

CPM (characters per minute) is the number of keystrokes typed in a minute, WPM is words per minute, where one word equals 5 characters. So 1 WPM = 5 CPM. Typewizz shows your result in CPM.

How do I get a typing speed certificate?

By passing the one-minute Typewizz typing test. You get the bronze certificate from 200 CPM with 96.5% accuracy, silver from 250 CPM and 98.5%, gold from 350 CPM and 99.5%. You can download the certificate and attach it to your CV.

How can I type faster?

The fastest way is touch typing without looking at the keyboard plus short regular practice of 10–15 minutes a day. Beginners benefit most from the Typewizz course, advanced typists from typing training on interesting texts.

What matters more, speed or accuracy?

Accuracy. Every mistake costs time to fix, so someone typing 50 words per minute at 98% accuracy ends up faster than someone typing 60 at 85%. Type with the right fingers and without errors first; speed comes with practice on its own.
